What is vision therapy?
Vision is much more than eyesight. Some visual conditionals are not treatable solely with contact lenses, glasses, or surgery. Vision therapy is like physical therapy for the eyes and brain to correct visual problems or skills. Vision therapy is not an exercise to strengthen eye muscles. It is a doctor-supervised, customized treatment program of visual activities designed to correct and improve certain visual problems and skills. Treatment programs are designed to improve the brain’s ability to control:
- eye tracking-the ability of the eyes to move smoothly, effortlessly, and accurately
- eye teaming-the eyes ability to working together
- eye focusing abilities
- eye alignment -good eye coordination
- visual processing-interpreting information from visual sensors to cognitive processing
